Meet the Presenters

Barbara Chappell with Books on Air and Barossa Stories

Barbara Chappell works as a community connector in her professional and volunteer work. Books are the source of many wonderful connections throughout the community for Barbara. She has been presenting on community radio since 2011 and with BBBfm since 2019. Her other interests include world music, upcycling old furniture, swimming and cooking.

The Barossa History Program

The Barossa History Program is in the development stages. Chris Murphy from the Barossa Heritage Network came up with the concept of bringing the history of the valley to the air waves.

Johnny Walker with Good Time Oldies Unlimited

Johnny Walker (aka Brian Walker) has been collecting music since 1959. When he got a little older he wanted to get involved in radio but never had much success. Most of his music came from record stores and fairs, so he plays all his music over the air so people from the same era may enjoy it. Johnny has been at BBBfm for 4 years and he really enjoys it.

About these programs

Books On Air is a program for all the book lovers who listen to BBBfm on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Monday of each month from 3 – 6pm. It is also for all the listeners who are yet to discover the joy of books and who might want to listen to the program and see what books and reading might have to offer. During the program listeners can expect book reviews, readings and interviews with book readers and authors; and of course some good music to listen to in between readings.

The Barossa History Program is all about the rich history of the Barossa valley on the 1st Monday of each month from 3 – 4 pm. It was first developed for agriculture and viticulture after European settlement by the British, but it wasn’t long before Silesian Lutheran emigrants from Prussia gave the region a distinctly German flavour. This heritage to present day in the valley will be explored with our listeners during this program.

Good Time Oldies Unlimited is a mix of music from the 50’s and 60’s presented by our very own Johnny Walker on the third Monday of each month from 3 – 5pm. All the music Johnny plays if from vinyl discs. Good old times indeed!
